OH KYEONG HOON|吴椻薰(Korea)
Oh Kyung-hoon (born in Gwangju, South Korea in 1986) currently resides in Seoul and continues to create art. He graduated from Kaywon University of Art and Design, majoring in media art. The core of his work explores sensory and aesthetic experiences at the intersection of Eastern and Western cultures. Through the layering, rendering, and dilution of acrylic paint, he constructs a unique visual language that lies between tradition and modernity, figuration and abstraction.
His works are based on the use of blank space and soft colors in Eastern aesthetics, while incorporating the symbolism of Western mythology and religious painting, as well as the flowing rhythm of animation. Through the layers of transparency and thickness created by the diffusion and overlapping of paint, he creates a viewing experience that is both intimate and unfamiliar, presenting the tension between Eastern and Western cultures, and reflecting the artist's own state of mind in the face of setbacks, dreams and self-discovery.
His early works were deeply influenced by anxiety and inner struggles, revealing the confusion about self-identity during adolescence. As his life experiences changed, he gradually moved from pain to hope, from doubt to the pursuit of happiness and peace. This psychological transformation imbued his works with a warm and healing atmosphere, conveying his creative belief in "choosing happiness." What he captures are those fleeting yet deeply touching emotions.
Wu Jingxun's work does not rely on a grand theoretical framework, but rather stems from sincere and direct emotional expression. He views painting as a way to engage in dialogue with the world, hoping to trigger a deep resonance within the viewer through his paintings—whether it be a small comfort or a moment of courage, these elements constitute the core of his artistic language. His life and creative journey seem to be a continuous dialogue and a constant challenge to himself: resisting passive fate while also embracing the unknown.
Whether on canvases of flowing colors or as symbols embodying cultural exchange, Wu Jingxun's art ultimately returns to a core—finding his own sense of authenticity and happiness between Eastern and Western aesthetics. His works are not only a projection of personal emotions but also an important testament to dreams, struggles, and hopes within the contemporary Asian art context.
