"Between the Frames: Fragment of Torso" is an extended painting series that takes the classical sculptural image of the torso as its starting point. Through a process of fragmentation and reassembly, it translates this image using the visual language of anime, subculture, and digital imagery. The work views the body as a state that can be disassembled and reconstructed, rather than a complete and unified form, further exploring how this "fragmentation" exists not only within the picture but also extends to the physical structure of the canvas itself.

This series employs irregular cutting and arrangement of canvases to create a structure akin to comic book panels and layered digital images, allowing painting to transcend a single viewpoint and fixed time-space. Instead, it presents a juxtaposition of multiple temporalities and spatialities. The painting thus becomes a fluid system rather than a closed representation.

In this context, the torso is no longer seen as a fragmented body, but an open state that allows for new perceptions and interpretations. Body fragments dispersed across various canvases form a liminal state between continuity and discontinuity; the gaps between canvases refer to the absence of the body while also becoming a field of viewing, guiding the viewer to actively participate in the reconstruction of the image through movement and splicing of their gaze.

This structure corresponds to the "gutter" in comics and the multi-layered interface of digital images, allowing classical figural art to be re-perceived and repositioned within contemporary visual culture. "Between the Frames: Fragment of Torso" attempts to interweave classical sculptural language with the contemporary image environment at the material and structural levels of painting, and further consider whether fragments and gaps can become conditions for generating new viewing experiences, thereby redefining the position of painting in the complex contemporary image ecology.
