Who is CASIMIR?

CASIMIR (Lee Chang-Hsien) is a Taiwanese contemporary artist who studied oil painting at Dayeh University’s Department of Visual Arts. His practice spans digital art, printmaking, mixed media and contemporary art. Starting from a background in oil painting, he has spent years exploring digital media as an art form in its own right, and how artistic language changes alongside technology.

A spiritual realm built around the feminine

Women are the central subject of CASIMIR’s work. Drawing on Art Nouveau, Symbolism, mythology and contemporary culture, he creates spaces between reality and fantasy. Finely rendered figures are woven together with plants, animals, religious symbols and esoteric imagery into layered visual stories; beneath the ornate compositions lie his reflections on human nature, desire, faith, lived experience and society today.

In CASIMIR’s work, women are not objects to be looked at but symbols of emotion, memory and spiritual consciousness. Through their expressions and gestures, the works reveal real and complex inner feelings and invite viewers into a world full of allegory and imagination.

From Mucha and Klimt to a digital vocabulary

CASIMIR is deeply influenced by Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, while also absorbing Impressionism, Pointillism, Cubism and contemporary digital art, developing a personal style that combines a classical spirit with a contemporary eye. In recent years he has extended digital imagery into mixed media, combining printing, industrial materials and found objects to explore the shift between the virtual and the physical.

Exhibitions

In 2021 CASIMIR held a major solo exhibition, CASIMIR ART: Digital Prints by Lee Chang-Hsien, at the National Taiwan Arts Education Center; in 2017 he showed CASIMIR: Ornate, Classical, Modern, Colourful at Jimmy Good Station Art Space in Changhua. He has taken part in UNKNOWN ASIA Art Exchange Osaka, Independent Taipei, WHATZ International Contemporary Art Fair and OneOffs Art Fair, as well as Eternal Mucha and other exhibitions, and was selected for the 2017 Yilan Award (New Media Art). His work is held by collectors in Asia and abroad.

Collecting the tarot series

Tarot is one of CASIMIR’s best-known series, with 0 The Fool as its signature piece. Each Major Arcana card is an edition of 30, and several — The Fool, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Lovers, Wheel of Fortune, The Star, The Moon and The Sun — have only one print left, so collectors after a particular card should decide early.

To start, the Pentacles suit is a good entry point: Ace of Pentacles to Six of Pentacles are NT$6,000 each — an ideal first original print, or choose the card that resonates with your own stage of life.

Before you buy

The works are printed on fine-art paper, so colour and texture differ slightly from the original digital file. Each print is made to order and signed by the artist, and usually ships about 6–8 weeks after the order — please make sure this works for you before ordering.
