About the Artist

Amanda M. Jansson
(b. 1994, Greek/German)
Amanda M. Jansson is a visual artist working across photography and painting whose work explores the fragile boundaries between the formation, fragmentation and reconstruction of identity. Drawing on mythology, anime, pop culture, folklore and dream imagery, she builds a visual world where innocence and unease coexist.
Her figures often exist between states — child and archetype, human and creature, viewer and viewed. Through delicate lines, soft colors and spaces steeped in a sense of night, Jansson creates an atmosphere that is both intimate and unsettling. Her characters seem to emerge from a psychological realm rather than a physical one.
Recurring elements such as mushrooms, animals, insects and ambiguous hybrid forms symbolize transformation and vulnerability, reflecting the processes by which identity is built, collapses and is reborn. The body becomes a point of intersection where cultural narratives, memory and power relations intertwine.
Jansson does not see identity as fixed or stable, but as permeable and ever-changing — shaped by myth, collective imagination and personal experience. Her work invites viewers into a quiet, introspective dialogue in which beauty, discomfort and curiosity exist side by side. Through this tension, she suggests that identity is not only a performance, but is continually summoned and entangled by the stories we inherit and the worlds we imagine.
