Contemporary painting; street culture, comics and lowbrow art
Decki "LEOS" Firmansah (born 1983) is an Indonesian contemporary artist. He graduated from the
Indonesian Institute of the Arts (Institut Seni Indonesia, ISI) in Yogyakarta and currently lives and works in Yogyakarta.
He is one of the most prominent emerging artists in Southeast Asia in recent years, known for his unique painting style that blends street culture, comics, Lowbrow Art, and Indonesian local popular culture.
Decki's works are full of childlike innocence yet imbued with dark humor. He often features exaggerated, deformed figures, monsters, and fantasy characters as protagonists. Through vibrant colors and fluid lines, he explores human emotions, memories, childhood experiences, and social phenomena. He excels at combining comics, American cartoons, Kustom Kulture, graffiti art, and surreal narratives to create a highly recognizable personal visual style, making his works both entertaining and profoundly metaphorical.
In addition to his painting, Decki has been actively involved in the Indonesian Kustom Kulture community for many years. Since 2015, he has served as an official collaborating artist for Kustomfest, Indonesia's largest custom culture art festival. He is also a co-founder of the art collective Ace House Collective. Ace House Collective is one of Indonesia's most representative young art groups, actively promoting interdisciplinary art, street culture, and contemporary art exchange, and has had a significant impact on the development of Indonesian contemporary art over the past two decades.
In 2017, Decki won the UOB Painting of the Year Silver Award and was shortlisted for the
Indonesian Art Award (IAA). In recent years, he has continued to be invited to participate in major international art fairs and exhibitions, including Art Jakarta, Art Fair Philippines, Art Amoy, Miami Art
Week, STRAAT Museum in the Netherlands, Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, USA, and
Masterruha Gallery in Tokyo, Japan. He also held a solo exhibition titled "Into My World" at Lutra Gallery in Shanghai, China. His works are also continuously exhibited through international galleries and art platforms in Asia, Europe, and America, gradually making him one of the important figures in Indonesian contemporary art.
