About this work
A window divides the picture into two worlds. Inside, under warm wooden walls and a glowing wall lamp, a ginger tabby and a black cat tussle playfully on white bedding; outside, in a snowy birch forest, a wild animal pins down its prey, with an axe and split logs left beside a stump. With finely realistic brushwork, Eunsom Kwon sets two kinds of 'hug' side by side, letting domestic warmth and wildness mirror each other.

Two Hugs

The violent hunting scene outside the window and the playful cat indoors are presented as juxtaposed images, highlighting the ironic contrast between the two worlds. The cozy tranquility under the warm indoor light stands in stark contrast to the wildness unfolding outside the glass. Although the two scenes appear close, they never truly intersect, quietly prompting us to reflect on how we observe nature.
