About this work
Between a teal corner and an orange-red tabletop, a milk carton is pieced together in bright orange and sky blue, its thick paint built up into a ridged, uneven surface, while warm red rings of light and shadow spread across the table. Layering mixed media on wood board, Joyrin turns the carton into a 'small room' whose door can be pushed open by one's own hand — a bright image carrying the faint glow of approaching spring.

Framed Within

This piece carries the memory of a time when I was about to emerge from what felt like a dark, suffocating cave. It marks that day—when, despite my lingering vulnerability, I began to believe that my season would bloom again, and I pushed the door open with that faint hope. The room had been closed, but the door was always ready to be opened. The shell I had built around myself could also be shed the moment I chose to. That flicker of certainty, like a sliver of light in the darkness, guided me forward. The sensation of following the precursors of early spring—not yet in full bloom, but undoubtedly on its way—is woven into this work.
